Cristiano Ronaldo still has the ambition to play in the 2026 World Cup. CR7 wants to appear in this big tournament as an Al Nassr player, then retire from professional football. Cristiano Ronaldo left the European football stage and moved to Saudi Arabia after accepting Al Nassr’s offer last January.
Currently, Ronaldo is still under contract with Al Nassr until the end of June 2025. The captain of the Portuguese national team also emphasized his commitment to Al Nassr. He wants to stay there until early 2027 or after the 2026 World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s plans were conveyed by journalist Ali Al-Harbi. Ali Al-Harbi said that Ronaldo wants to play in the 2026 World Cup as an Al Nassr player. After that, CR7 will hang up his shoes.
Moreover, Ronaldo revealed his plans to Al Nassr management before carrying out state duties with the Portuguese national team in the Euro Qualifications. “Cristiano wants to play in the 2026 World Cup as an Al Nassr player, then he will announce his retirement from football,” wrote Ali Al-Harbi on his personal X (Twitter), Monday (9/10/2023).
Since joining last January, Cristiano Ronaldo has made 36 appearances and scored 31 goals for Al Nassr. Ronaldo also helped Al Nassr win the Arab Club Champions Cup, which was their first trophy in Saudi Arabia. Cristiano Ronaldo guided 10-man Al-Nassr to their first ever Arab Club Champions Cup title after scoring twice in a 2-1 extra-time win over fellow Saudi side Al-Hilal.
Most recently, CR7 received a call to the Portugal national team for two Euro 2024 qualifying matches. Portugal will host Slovakia on the seventh matchday of Group J at the Do Dragao Stadium, Porto, on Saturday (14/10/2023).
After that, Cristiano Ronaldo et al will visit Bosnia on Tuesday (17/10/2023). Meanwhile, Portugal, which swept six Euro 2024 qualifying matches with a win, currently leads the Group J standings with a perfect score of 18.
Previously Portugal beats Luxemburg with score 9-0 without Ronaldo. The striker is suspended as the yellow card he picked up was his third of the European Championship qualifying campaign.
