Andrey Rublev Seals 20th Masters Tournament Win The Season In Paris

Andrey Rublev became the fourth player this season to bag 20 wins in the Masters 1000 tournament when competing at the Paris Masters.

The fifth seed put on a stunning display when he beat Dutch tennis player Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 6-3 in the third round of the Paris Masters.

The world number 5 was in top form against van de Zandschulp after he hit 18 winners with just four unforced errors to advance to his 12th quarter-final of the season after 65 minutes.

The 26-year-old won the first Masters title of his career at the Monte Carlo Open earlier this season and is 20-7 at tournaments at that level this season. Only Carlos Alcaraz (25), Daniil Medvedev (25), and Jannik Sinner (21) are bagged more wins in Masters 1000 tournaments this season.

“This time the match went according to my plan. The chance to break early gave me confidence. With a set lead, you play with more freedom, then with a break in the second set, I had more freedom. Then, you can achieve more things,” said Andrey Rublev.

Rublev, who will compete in the ATP Finals this season, will continue his quest to win his third title of the season when he faces 13th seed Alex De Minaur in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters.

World number 4 tennis player Jannik Sinner forced to withdraw ahead of his match against Australian tennis player Alex De Minaur due to fatigue. The Italian tennis player won the match in three long sets which ended at 2.37 am local time in the previous round. By qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters, the 13th seed is still aiming for a place in the ATP Finals.

Meanwhile, after beating Daniil Medvedev in the previous round, the Bulgarian tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, was unstoppable after he was able to win 6-2, 6-2 over the Kazakh national, Alexander Bublik. He is now through to the quarterfinals of his second Masters 1000 tournament of the season after advancing to the semifinals in Shanghai last month.

The 32-year-old Dimitrov’s best achievement at the Paris Masters was the semifinals in the 2019 season. He will try to repeat this achievement when he faces the 11th seed, Hubert Hurkacz, who beat Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo 6-4, 6-3.
