Harry Kane on Thursday scored twice for his team as Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 victory against Galatasaray to secure their spot at the top of the Group A standings and also reach the Top 16 of the Champions League 2023-2024 season. Credits go to Kimmich and Tel, who created two potential assists for the English skipper during the final minutes of the game take a crucial 2-0 lead. The Galas could only manage to narrow the gap during extra time when Bakambu scored the only goal for the side.
It was only in the 80th minute of the game that we got the first goal of the night when Bayern was awarded a free kick spot. Joshua Kimmich stepped in to take the free kick as he swerved the ball over the herd of players where Kane was positioned at just the right spot to head it into the nets to get the much-needed opening goal for Bayern.
The celebrations for Bayern were doubled when just after about 6 minutes, Kane scored a second goal when he slotted the ball home following a crisp pass by Mathys Tel across the Galatasaray defense. With 86 minutes down the clock, Bayern Munich were comfortably leading at 2-0.
Galatasaray was finally able to score, what could be touted as a consolation goal only in the 3rd minute of extra time when Cedric Bakambu headed the ball into the nets for the first Gala goal after Sergio Oliveiras scooped the ball in from over the top. The celebrations were limited and low-key as it was just too late for the home side.
It was rather an unfortunate outing for Galatasaray as they could’ve managed a draw after having seemingly scored the opening goal of the match in the first half when Lucas Torreira finished from a Mauro Icardi flick, but the Argentine striker was ruled offside and the goal was not counted.
Bayern Munich maintained their sublime gameplay despite losing Musiala being sent off the field in the first half after he injured his hamstring, but they maintained their focus to secure their fourth Group A win on the trot and book their spot in the knockout phase. Bayern became only the second team after Real Madrid to make it to the Top 16 of the tournament.
The star of the night, Harry Kane, courtesy of his doublet, became the third English player to reach 25 goals in the Champions League when he put his side ahead. So, he will surely be the player to watch out for as Bayern continues on with the Champions League campaign!
