Cori Gauff started her journey at the Australian Open, Melbourne in the 2024 season with a win in straight sets.
The fourth seed did not experience many problems when she won 6-3, 6-0 over Slovakian tennis player Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the first round of the Australian Open.
Playing his first Grand Slam as a Grand Slam champion, the winner in Auckland earlier this month overcame a slow start on his serve before snatching eight games in a row to seal a victory that was fought for just over an hour.

“I thought I returned well, then I found my serve towards the end of the match. “She’s a tough player to play against, but I’m happy with how I handled my emotions today,” Gauff said.
The 2023 US Open champion started the match with a 2-0 lead before Karolina Schmiedlova was able to break it back and keep the start of the match fierce. With the American struggling to find a rhythm on her serve, the Slovak was able to break her opponent three times in the first set.
But the fourth seed’s ability to break the 29-year-old’s serve was the foundation for his victory. Throughout the match, he was able to create nine break point opportunities and convert seven of them. He also finished the match by hitting 15 winners and making 13 unforced errors. He held off the Slovakian national and only allowed him to shoot two winners.
“When I was nervous at 3-3, I told myself I feel good, I feel good, so just have fun. That can relax me a little. That’s why I play tennis, it’s for fun.”
Cori Gauff will next face compatriot Caroline Dolehide.
