Napoli Vs Inter Milan: Dramatic, Nerazzurri Win Italian Super Cup

Inter Milan won the 2023 Italian Super Cup. The Nerazzurri beat Napoli 1-0 in the final with a goal in injury time.

Playing at KSU Stadium, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Monday (22/1/2024), Napoli vs Inter met in the final. Both teams previously eliminated their opponents in the semifinals.

Napoli beat Fiorentina 3-0, while Inter also beat Lazio 3-0. The final also brought together two Italian giants.

Both teams appeared disciplined and careful from the start of the match. Both Napoli and Inter had difficulty scoring goals, so the scoreline lasted until the end of the first half.

In the second half, Napoli played with 10 people from the 60th minute. Giovanni Simeone was given the second yellow card in this match, which gave Inter the upper hand,

The winning goal finally arrived in injury time. Inter took a 1-0 lead over their opponents, thanks to a goal scored by Lautaro Martinez. Until the match ended, the score remained.

This success has enabled Inter Milan to win the Italian Super Cup in three consecutive seasons, since 2021, 2022 and now the 2023 edition. The Big Snake has also now collected 8 Italian Super Cup trophies, only losing one to Juventus.

The match was tough from the start. In the second minute, Nicolo Barella had to receive treatment on the field.

The first attempt came from Napoli. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Federico Dimarco exchanged threats, but their respective efforts were blocked by their opponents.

The first shot on target came from Inter Milan in the 17th minute. Hakan Calhanoglu fired a right-footed shot from outside the box, but the ball was blocked by Pierluigi Gollini.

Inter quite dominated in the first half. Simone Inzaghi’s men threatened more, but none of their chances resulted in goals.

Meanwhile Napoli, who played hard, defended well. The final score remained scoreless until the break.

In the second half, Napoli changed their approach. Walter Mazzarri’s men started to put a lot of pressure on. Several times Khvicha Kvaratskhelia spread threats to the opponent’s goal.

Inter also continues to press. In the 57th minute, Marcus Thuram presented an opportunity, but it failed to result in a goal after his shot was saved by Gollini.

Unfortunately for Napoli in the 60th minute. Giovanni Simeone was given a second yellow card and had to leave the field. Inter used the superior number of players to put pressure.

Inter practically controlled the remaining minutes of the match. Marcus Thuram et al presented many opportunities, but the goal they were looking for only arrived in injury time.

Utilizing Benjamin Pavard’s bait from the right, Lautaro Martinez was able to welcome it into a goal in the 90+1 minute. His flick in front of goal sent the ball into the net. The 1-0 score lasted until the match ended.
