Lazio will face Bayern Munich in the first leg of the last 16 of the 2023-2024 Champions League. Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri is aware of the difficulty of overthrowing the German giant, but he asked his team to have fun.
The match will be held at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Italy on Thursday (15/2/2024). This will be the second meeting for Lazio and Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Previously, the two teams had met in the same round in the 2020-2021 season. At that time, Bayern Munich successfully secured victory over two legs on aggregate (6-2).
Reflecting on these notes, Sarri realized that the Biancocelesti – Lazio’s nickname – were not favored in that match. However, the coach with an Italian passport emphasized that Lazio must have high confidence to win.
“If we thought it was impossible, we would have lost,” said Sarri, quoted from Football Italia, Wednesday (14/2/2024).
“We have to have enthusiasm and confidence. It’s a good game and we want to win. We will try to win it at all costs. When we have to suffer, we have to do it together. There will be difficult moments tomorrow, but we have to overcome them. “That is inevitable against a club like Bayern Munich,” he continued.
Sarri also emphasized that Lazio and Bayern Munich both have a chance to win. Therefore, he asked the Biancocelesti to have fun in the upcoming match.
“We must not forget that we are playing a match, so we must have fun,” he said.
