Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, remains interested in bringing Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo to Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s familiarity with Gakpo’s strengths and playing style made him a natural fit for United’s rebuild under the the Dutch manager.

United were keen to sign a new forward, but they left it until the final week of the window to spend £85m on Ajax winger Antony.

Liverpool reportedly met PSV’s asking price of £40 million, making Gakpo the club’s most expensive signing in their winter transfer window history.

Despite joining Liverpool, Gakpo hasn’t missed a beat. He has seamlessly integrated into Jurgen Klopp’s system, contributing with goals and assists.

This continued development further strengthens his appeal to Ten Hag, who may see Gakpo as a player who can seamlessly adapt to his playing style at United.

Gakpo’s consistent goalscoring and versatility across the forward line made him an attractive target for several top clubs, including United.

Gakpo, in a recent interview with Sky Sports, revealed his desire to join United during the summer transfer window.

Despite initially stating his contentment with staying at Liverpool, Gakpo acknowledged United’s growing interest and his eventual hope for a move to Old Trafford.

“At the start of the window, United registered their interest but not very strongly,” Gakpo said.

“So I was waiting for a bit, and then the end was approaching and the signals became more positive,” he added.

Gakpo has made a positive start to his Liverpool career, contributing 5 goals in his first 11 appearances for the club. This goalscoring form highlights his potential and suggests he could be a valuable asset for Liverpool in the future.
