Ligue 1 has a reputation for being a league with a good technical standard, but also one that can be physically demanding and tactically astute.
While Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance may skew perception a bit, there are several competitive teams in the league that can challenge for European spots and trophies. This suggests that Luis Enrique’s initial impression might have been a bit naive.
“It was a very high level match, with unique coaches, high level teams. I can give you my feelings about Ligue 1. Before arriving there, I thought it was a fairly easy championship, but it’s quite the opposite.” Enrique said.
“There is a very high individual level in what the coaches offer. You will think that I say this because it looks good, but no, I find that it is a very competitive league, with a lot of talent, young players who then go to other championships.”
“There is a high level among the coaches too. I can speak about this from experience.” Enrique added.
Enrique has expressed his strong desire to win the Coupe de France. He views it as an important competition and a chance to add another trophy to the club’s cabinet.
The former Barcelona manager has emphasised the need to take each match seriously, avoiding complacency against lower-league opponents. His approach has been key in PSG’s successful run in the tournament so far.
“They are different competitions. There are always areas to improve after each match, for all teams.” Enrique said.
“The Coupe de France is very attractive. This is the case in all countries, whether it is the FA Cup, Copa del Rey”
“These are competitions which are centuries old and which are very popular with the public.”
“It’s difficult because it’s a 90-minute match in which you have to be superior to your opponent, otherwise you’ll go to penalties or even be eliminated.” he added.
PSG will be facing Nice on March 14th in the Coupe de France quarter-finals. This is a crucial match for Enrique’s side as they aim to win the tournament and add another trophy to their collection.
