Mercedes Team Head: No F1 Driver Can Get Past Verstappen

Mercedes Team Principal, Toto Wolff, believes that no F1 racer can pass Max Verstappen in the 2024 season. This assessment came after the main Red Bull driver won the 2024 Japan F1 series on Sunday (7/4/2024) afternoon.

Max Verstappen emerged champion at the Suzuka Circuit, 12 seconds ahead of teammate Sergio Perez in second place. This racer from the Netherlands managed to recover after not finishing in the Australian series. He dominated the Japanese race since the free practice session.

Today’s victory strengthens his position in first place in the 2024 F1 standings with 77 points from the three wins he achieved. “No one will catch Max this year,” said Toto responding to Verstappen’s win.

The CEO of the Mercedes-AMG F1 team revealed that Verstappen’s consistency and superior car meant he could go faster than other drivers. “The way he drives and the car is spectacular. You can see it from the way he manages the tires,” added Wolff. “This season is the best of any other. This is the battle that is going on,” said Wolff.

Max and Red Bull’s dominance in F1 has been demonstrated by both since the middle of the 2022 season. This consistency returned in the 2023 season. Verstappen will emerge as world champion for the third time.

In addition, this 26 year old racer has the opportunity to win a fourth world title in the 2024 season, if his performance is consistent and nothing extraordinary happens to him. After the Japanese series, Max is still hungry to win in the next series, “What we did today, that’s what we want to do, and that’s what we want to do every weekend,” said Verstappen. “The season is still very long. I don’t want to think too much about the rest of the season. I really want to take it one day at a time,” he added.

The China Series will be the next target, the race will take place at the Shanghai International Circuit from 19 to 21 April 2024. The Shanghai Circuit is 5.4 km long and the race will last for 56 laps.
