The Brooklyn Nets are having a tough season. They have only won three games in a row, and it’s unlikely they will make it to the play-in tournament. With only seven games left in the season, the team still hasn’t reached 30 wins.
Despite the team’s struggles, there is some good news for the Nets’ Dennis Schroder. The Nets have a talented young player, Cam Thomas, who has a max contract.
“First of all, Cam is a max contract player. He deserves this. He’s always going to be a scorer first and foremost, but he’s grown a lot as a passer lately.” Schroder said.
“It’s the lobs for Nic Claxton , but also the way he finds everyone well positioned on the perimeter. He shows an exciting evolution, certainly.” Schroder added.
Thomas has been on fire in the last ten matches, scoring an average of nearly 27 points per game. Not only that, but he’s been incredibly accurate, making 48% of his shots from the field.
What’s even more impressive is Thomas’ increased involvement in other aspects of the game. He’s been dishing out assists like never before, with an average of 4.1 assists per game during this period.
According to Schroder, Thomas’ improved all-around game is the most exciting development in his young career. It’s not just about scoring anymore – Thomas is becoming a more well-rounded player
“I always talk to Cam, since I arrived, about him being a threat not only in scoring, but also distributing the game. And, in the last few games, he took a step forward and improved significantly in that sense.” Schroder said.
“We need it to stay that way. After all, when you play with this type of attitude, we are a superior team.” he added.
Thomas becomes eligible for a contract extension with the Nets at the end of the current season. After all, that’s what happens to rookie athletes who finish their third year in the NBA.
The shooting guard, however, doesn’t exactly feel that way. He had two campaigns marked by instability until he arrived here. And, therefore, the impression is that his real career has just begun.
“People say it’s my third season, but really, I feel like it’s my freshman year. I’m the protagonist of the opponents’ strategy now, whereas I was in and out of the rotation before.” Thomas said.
“The teams prepare to face me. The other teams play the best scorer on me and double their marking to take the ball out of my hands, for example.” Thomas added.
