Leicester City forges ahead with 1-0 victory over Copenhagen

In a thrilling game Riyad Mahrez’s clever first half goal put Leicester city stand just one victory away from qualification for the Champions League knockout phase. After beating Copenhagen at the King Power Stadium this makes three wins from three for Leicester city in their group. This is for the third time this term Leicester city went into Champions League game on the back of a heavy Premier League defeat but they erased off all the disappointment to secure a third straight win in the competition and all credit goes to Riyad Mahrez’s 40th minute goal for his team.

Ranieri said “It’s unbelievable, it’s a lesson,” when he was asked to comment on his team’s performance with nine points from three games in the Champions League and just eight from eight in the Premier League. Ranieri added that “he predicts that his team will turn the corner in the league soon and the home game against Crystal Palace on Saturday will represent a greater challenge than this one.”

Leicester captain Wes Morgan said: “It was a stern test that’s for sure,” “We had to really work hard, be resilient and try to take our chance when it came.”

Now with three matches remaining Leicester are five clear of second placed Copenhagen and Porto who bear Club Burges 2-1 in Belgium. However in this match Leicester looked struggling for points dramatically especially in the first half and it was only after Riyad Mahrez’s 40th-minute goal the team got back energy and displayed some more action on the field. Though the team ended the game on a winning note and it was keeper Kasper Schmeichel whose superb one handed save in the final minute inflicted the first defeat on Copenhagen in 24 matches in all competitions.

When Leicester scored a goal just five minutes before the halftime it was a goal out of nothing. A deep cross from Jamie Vardy found Slimani lurking at the far post and he headed down for fellow Algerian Mahrez who flick the ball with the outside of his boot past Copenhagen keeper Robin Olsen and into the net. This match had many nervy moments for Leicester however they managed to put the game in their favour. Now, it is Leicester’s turn to make it big in the coming matches and put their team on the top of the slots continuing their winning spree.
