Xtreme Gaming made it to the grand finals of PGL Wallachia Season 1 with a flawless 12-0 game record.
PGL’s one million tournament is the fifth international competition played by Xtreme Game this year and brings the third grad finals spot secured. However, it is the first tourney where the Chinese team is truly unbeatable. On their path to the grand finals, XG clean-swept G2.iG, Team Spirit, and Team Falcons.
Xtreme Gaming vs Team Falcons
A month ago, Xtreme Gaming defeated Team Falcons in the grand finals of Elite League. Since then, the MENA representative bounced back and took home the ESL One Birmingham trophy while Xtreme finished just top 8 in Germany. Coming into PGL Wallachia, Falcons had to bring back from retirement Leon “Nine” Krilin and have him stand in for Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak in the mid lane.
Even so, Falcons were the only team besides XG to make a quick run through the modified Swiss group stage format and secure the three victories needed for a playoffs spot. Despite playing with Nine who was actually playing in the support position before taking a break from competitive Dota, Falcons displayed the same strong form as in Birmingham up to the upper bracket finals.
They held a comfortable 10K gold lead in game one versus XG, but the Chinese were relying on their late game potential with Bristleback in the carry position, an offlane Viper who became a menace once he hit the Universal status at level 25, and with Zhao “XinQ” Zixing on Marci, one of his favourite heroes.
XG made a full comeback through the last 10 minutes of the game courtesy of spot-on initiations from XinQ and overall incredible team fight control with his Marci.
Game two was more of a stomp from the Chinese team who snowballed their way to the grand finals with a carry Clinkz.
Falcons might be defeated, but they are not out of contention for what could be the fourth tournament title for them. Today’s loss at the hands of XG, sends Team Falcons to the lower bracket finals where they will face off against the winner of G2 x iGvsTeam Spirit lower bracket semifinals.
