Manchester United is reportedly retain Erik ten Hag as coach next season after the club completes its end-of-season review. Man United representatives held talks with Erik ten Hag on Tuesday (11/6/2024) with both parties agreeing to continue cooperation.
Previously, the future of the 54 year old coach was in uncertainty after Man United’s worst season in the Premier League era. The 60 points recorded by Bruno Fernandes et al are only two better than their worst record since 1992 and a goal difference of minus one in the final standings is the first time this has happened in 34 years.
News has also circulated that the INEOS group, which controls football aspects in the Red Devils camp, will fire the coach at the end of the season. However, victory in the FA Cup appears to have saved the fate of the coach, whose contract will expire at the end of next season. The FA Cup result over Manchester City also means that the Red Devils will play in the Europa League next season.
Previously, coaches such as Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate, Kieran McKenna and Mauricio Pochettino were rumored to be Ten Hag’s replacement at Old Trafford. According to Sky Sports, there are several reasons why Man United is continuing their collaboration with ten Hag.
Firstly, the Red Devils are said to appreciate Ten Hag’s achievements in winning the League Cup and FA Cup in his first two seasons. “Ten Hag’s dedication is said to have impressed decision makers at United, as did the coach’s professionalism and dignity in carrying out his job,” wrote Sky Sports.
Ten Hag is also said to be increasingly stealing hearts at Man United because he has succeeded in integrating academy players such as Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho into his team. Man United’s end-of-season review is also said to look at the factors that are making the Red Devils difficult. One of which is the number of injuries suffered by the Man United squad and also problems in several key positions. The Athletic reported that the end-of-season review process was led by the club’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford.
