Cristiano Ronaldo said touching words ahead of strengthening the Portugal national team at Euro 2024. This 39-year-old footballer admitted that he was ready to be an exemplary leader when leading the Portugal squad at Euro 2024.
He will be playing his sixth European Cup (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024) throughout his career as a professional footballer. On the first five occasions, his best performance led Seleccao das Quinas – the nickname of the Portuguese National Team – to win the 2016 European Cup. In order to repeat the achievement eight years ago, Cristiano Ronaldo has found a way.
“I try to lead in a way that I think is productive. “I want to be a player who helps other people, someone they can respect, be a role model and be a good professional,” said Cristiano Ronaldo, quoting from the official Euro 2024 website, Wednesday (12/6/2024).
“I like to do things by example, as I usually say. “I’m not a person who talks a lot but I want to show them who I am,” continued the father of five children.
“When there is pressure, when things are not going well, you have to know when to discipline them and when to support them. However, when things are good, you have to be with them and work together,” stressed the holder of five Ballon d’Or trophies.
The Al-Nassr star said that his leadership style was quite accepted by the Portuguese national team. However, Cristiano Ronaldo understands that there are several players who have their own ways of helping the team.
“Leadership style is very personal, but in this team, we have many leaders in their own way, and that is one of the reasons I think we are a great national team,” said Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portugal national team is joined by Turkey, Georgia and the Czech Republic in Group F Euro 2024. In the first match, they will meet the Czech Republic at the Red Bull Arena, Leipzig, Germany on Wednesday 19 June 2024.
