Joko Widodo several months ago just signed Presidential Decree no. 19 of 2024 or what is usually referred to as the National Game Presidential Decree. This regulation contains efforts to accelerate the development of the national gaming industry, one of which is organizing activities on a national, regional and global scale. One of the events is WCG 2024 aka World Cyber Game which this year will be held in Indonesia.
This is the first time WCG has visited Indonesia and even Southeast Asia. Last year this festival took place in Busan, South Korea and had a Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament which was won by EVOS Icon.
The WCG 2024 committee is bringing a slightly different concept to this year’s event. They are now focusing more on influencers rather than tournaments attended by professional players. Apart from that, they also have several new programs, one of which is the Creative Business Forum.
This program will bring together various content industry stakeholders such as comics, games, films, animation from various countries with creators from Indonesia. The hope is that this program can attract the attention of domestic and foreign investors in seeing the potential of the intellectual property (IP) industry in Indonesia.
The highlight of the WCG 2024 event itself will take place from 31 August to 1 September 2024. One of the games made by Indonesia, namely Lokapala, will also be showcased at the Creative Business Forum as a series of WCG 2024 events. This is a golden opportunity to encourage local game developers to activate in Asia Southeast through influencer marketing while attracting domestic and foreign investment.
Apart from Lokapala, the Creative Business Forum at WCG 2024 also has a special area that will showcase other top Indonesian games. The committee hopes that the presence of invited influencers will be able to play and promote artificial games considering that live streaming of games can increase awareness and visibility for local games in the eyes of international audiences.
