Vettel top as Ferrari threatens Mercedes

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was an amaze pace-setter in second practice at the Mexican Grand Prix.

The four-time champion upstaged title rivals Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, pipping the Briton by 0.004 seconds.

Rosberg, who can tie up the title on Sunday if comes about go his direction, was 0.435secs behind Vettel.

The German, 26 focuses ahead with 75 accessible over the staying three races, will be champion on the off chance that he wins the race with Hamilton tenth or lower.

Rosberg can bear to complete second – or second twice and third once – regardless of the possibility that Hamilton wins all the rest of the races and still be champion.

In the event that Ferrari are in the blend at the front on Sunday, it would be unforeseen after a troublesome season for the Italian group, however it could play into Hamilton’s hands.

Since Rosberg has such favorable position, Hamilton in a perfect world needs him to complete beneath the platform positions. On the off chance that Hamilton won with Rosberg lower than third, the Briton would have the capacity to control the title – two wins in the last two races would be sufficient, even with no further issues for alternate Mercedes.

Ferrari have been buckling down on building up their auto in late races and the SF16-H has a tendency to go better with respect to Mercedes at the races where the gentler feels sick of the five in the Pirelli range are behind utilized.

Mexico is one of those tracks, with the super-delicate, delicate and medium being the tires accessible.

It was harder than common to understand relative frame in light of the fact that Ferrari did not run the super-delicate tires toward the begin of the race-recreation runs.

Rather, they sent Vettel out on the medium tire and Raikkonen on the delicate, while Mercedes and Red Bull did the more regular thing in running the super-delicate.

Of the super-delicate runners, Hamilton was serenely snappier than Rosberg, who was firmly coordinated with the Red Bulls.

Hamilton, who was beaten to pole and win by Rosberg in Mexico last year, said he had had “a solid day”, adding: “The track is feeling better than it did last year and I feel a lot more comfortable in the car than I did the first time we came to this circuit, so hopefully I can carry that through the rest of the weekend.

“I didn’t really get the maximum out of my lap and out of my tyres so I think we have got more pace.”

Hamilton said: “I don’t think so but we’ll find out tomorrow.”

“It was a good day,” said Vettel. “The car seems to work, but there was a lot of traffic – I felt like I was in Mexico City, not on the race track.

“Lewis’ lap didn’t look particularly good so I think he has a little more in the pocket. We need to be realistic. If it’s like this tomorrow, we take it for sure.”
