Forward OG Anunoby has extended his contract with the New York Knicks for five years.
In a recent report by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, it has been confirmed that OG Anunoby will be receiving a staggering $212.5 million for his contract period.
Despite swirling rumours speculating that Anunoby might explore options in the NBA market, he has ultimately decided to remain with his current team.
With Anunoby’s contract extension, the Knicks are building one of the best rosters for next season. That’s because the team received Mikal Bridges in exchange on Tuesday night.
On the other hand, there is a tendency that center Isaiah Hartenstein will not stay for 2024/25.
“One player who could have already agreed to a renewal as soon as the final ended is OG. But we will keep an eye on that.” Wojnarowski said.
“Many people expect him to sign a new contract and stay in New York, but it is not as simple as it seems.
“There are signs that the athlete plans to test the market, as he was not so excited about what has been offered so far,” Wojnarowski added.
The Knicks now have Jalen Brunson, Miles McBride, Donte DiVincenzo, Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson under contract.
In other words, coach Tom Thibodeau will be able to use a rotation of at least eight players. This, without counting Shake Milton, another who has an agreement until 2025.
Meanwhile, the board must try to exhaust all its options to keep Hartesntein for the next campaign.
Anunoby’s presence on the Knicks was very important. Since the athlete arrived on the team in a trade with the Toronto Raptors, the team was practically unbeatable with him on the court.
In the regular season, the New York team won 20 of the 23 games in which Anunoby played. However, injuries to his shoulder and, later, his thigh, took the player off the court.
In 23 games for the Knicks during the regular season, Anunoby averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 steals and shot 39.4% from the court.
