Former Arsenal captain and Brazilian football legend, Gilberto Silva, has recently expressed his belief that superstar Neymar could be enticed to return to Europe.
Silva, who himself spent several successful seasons in Europe, understands the appeal of European football.
He admitted the competitive nature of the leagues, the tactical sophistication, and the chance for players to showcase their skills on the grandest stages.
“I’d love to see Neymar in the Premier League with Arsenal. It would bring a lot of joy to fans and make the competition even more special.” Silva said.
“When you look at the Premier League, we want to see the best players in the world, and to have him around would be great.
“Let’s see. It’s not impossible that he could join Arsenal, why not.” Silva added.
Neymar, who recently concluded a seven-season stint with Paris Saint-Germain, is now showcasing his skills in Saudi Arabia.
Unfortunately, a severe knee injury has significantly limited the Brazilian’s playing time, allowing him to make only five appearances and score a solitary goal in the inaugural season of his remarkable £127 million per year contract.
As the summer transfer window approaches, the rumour mill is abuzz with whispers of a potentially sensational move that could see Neymar make a shock transfer to Arsenal.
Arsenal has a strong Brazilian connection, with notable past players such as Gilberto Silva and Edu Gaspar, who currently serves as the club’s technical director.
This existing relationship could play a crucial role in enticing Neymar to the Emirates Stadium.
The prospect of reuniting with fellow Brazilians and being part of a team that values their culture and style of play might be an appealing factor for Neymar.
While Neymar’s salary in Saudi Arabia is undoubtedly substantial, Arsenal’s financial capabilities, coupled with their desire to make a marquee signing, could make the move feasible.
