Arsenal Principles! Mikel Arteta Insists No Big Spending This Season

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Arsenal cannot spend big again this summer. They will strengthen the squad, but not to the point of forcing transfers with fantastic values.

Arsenal must strengthen the squad if they really want to win. They have continued to compete at the highest level of the Premier League in the last two seasons, but unfortunately had to finish as runners-up.

Well, actually, Arsenal have moved quite aggressively in the transfer market. Last summer they brought in Declan Rice from West Ham for a fantastic value, the total cost reaching 105 million pounds.

Even so, now Arteta ensures that Arsenal cannot spend that much again. They will only buy the players they need.

Arsenal Will Not Spend Big

Arsenal’s current squad can be said to be quite good, capable of competing at the highest level of the Premier League. Arteta also said that he was very satisfied with the current condition of the squad.

Therefore, now Arteta emphasizes that Arsenal will not repeat big spending like last year. They will not move rashly in the transfer market.

“We’re not going to do anything like that, that’s the way it is,” Arteta said during Arsenal’s pre-season tour.

“We have to wait and see what happens in the transfer market. We’ve identified the things we need to improve.”

Strengthening the Squad

Arsenal’s movement so far has been quiet. They have made David Raya’s move permanent from Brentford, and also brought in Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. However, other than that, there have been no big names linked with Arsenal.

“We’ve had internal meetings in February, March and April. So, if we can, we’ll strengthen the team. So far, I’m very happy with what we’ve got,” he concluded.

Former Aston Villa player Gabriel Agbonlahor has named Arsenal as the favorites for the Premier League title next season.

Arsenal were contenders for the Premier League title last season. Mikel Arteta’s team was able to be at the top of the standings for a long time.

Even so, Arsenal ultimately failed to become champions. The Gunners had to be satisfied with finishing two points behind champions Manchester City.

Arsenal were also Manchester City’s main competitors in the 2022/2023 Premier League title race. At that time, they finished five points behind The Citizens.

Arsenal have been able to challenge for the Premier League title in the last two seasons. This time Agbonlahor still favors The Gunners in the Premier League title race.

“The reason why they are probably the favorites is because let’s look at last season, they only finished two points behind Manchester City,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

“People forget that it was tight, it might not look tight, but it was tight. Arsenal scored 91 goals, City 96, Arsenal conceded less than City, 29, City conceded 34.”

Arsenal also had a pretty good defense last season. With the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori, The Gunners will certainly be even stronger.

“They also didn’t concede many goals, and with Calafiori there as well, he will add stability to the back four which was already very good,” he continued.

“So, I think Arsenal deserve to be the favorites and they will learn every season.”
