Varane Retires, Decides to Stay at Como in Another Role

French football star who defended Como this season, Raphael Varane has officially retired from football.

Varane officially decided to hang up his boots from the green field on Wednesday (25/9/2024). The decision was announced via a post on his Instagram social media.

“They say that all good things will certainly have an end. In my career, I have faced many challenges, experienced improvements from time to time, almost all of which were considered impossible. Extraordinary emotions, special moments and memories that will last a lifetime.”

“Reflecting on those moments, I am proud and satisfied to announce that I am retiring from the game we love together,” said Varane on his Instagram account.

Varane is one of the best defenders France has ever had. He started his career at Lens and then reaped great success with Real Madrid.

At Los Blancos, Varane built his career from a young player to a world-class defender. Varane then tried a new adventure at Manchester United since 2021.

After three seasons at Old Trafford, Varane moved to Como. Varane signed a two-year contract with the promoted club.

As a player, Varane’s titles are almost complete. He has the La Liga trophy, Champions League, European Super Cup, and Club World Cup. Varane even won the trophy several times because he was part of Real Madrid’s success in the 2010s.

Unfortunately, Varane suffered a knee injury in the Coppa Italia match. Varane’s name was then not included in the Serie A squad and then decided to retire from football on Wednesday (25/9/2024).

After deciding to retire, Varane then confirmed that he would remain at Como. However, he has not given more details about his new role at Como.

“So, a new life will begin off the field. I will stay with Como. Only without wearing shoes and shin guards.”

“Something I will announce in more detail later,” said Varane on his Instagram account.
