Riot Games announced the world-famous music band, Linkin Park, as the musicians who will perform the League of Legends World Championship 2024 anthem titled ‘Heavy Is The Crown’.
The music video for ‘Heavy Is The Crown’ can be enjoyed by fans on YouTube or other music platforms starting Tuesday, September 24 at 22:00 WIB. In Linkin Park’s latest tour in Hamburg, they have performed this anthem live.
‘Heavy Is The Crown’ follows Linkin Park’s first single in seven years, ‘The Emptiness Machine’. The song soared to the top of the charts, racking up over 80 million streams across all platforms, as the band embarked on a six-date arena tour. Their eighth studio album ‘From Zero’ is due out on November 15 via Warner Records.
Mike added that the song is truly a key part of Linkin Park’s new era. “It combines our signature sound with a fresh energy. We’re so excited for fans and players to experience it too!”
“The Worlds anthem is one of the most anticipated musical moments for League players each year and has become a major highlight in the global music scene,” said Maria Egan, Global Head of Music, Riot Games. “As the band enters an exciting new chapter, we’re honored to join them for this year’s anthem. The lyrics of ‘Heavy Is The Crown’ perfectly capture the narrative of this year’s Worlds and are a perfect fit for our music video theme.”
Billboard called Linkin Park’s return a triumphant moment as they join previous Worlds performers such as Imagine Dragons, Lil Nas X, Zedd, NewJeans, and more. The songs have been streamed more than 10 billion times across digital streaming platforms.
Recently, NewJeans’ Worlds 2023 anthem, “GODS,” broke the record for the biggest debut in anthem history. The song has reached nearly 270 million global streams across multiple platforms and its music video has nearly 100 million views on the League of Legends YouTube channel.
The League of Legends World Championship, or Worlds itself, is the pinnacle of LoL Esports competition. The best teams from nine regions compete to win the world championship title. Held after the regular season in a different host region each year, teams that qualify from professional leagues around the world participate in the three-month tournament.
Meanwhile, Linkin Park has just introduced their new vocalist, Emily Armstrong, who is known for her powerful voice and unique style. Emily was previously the frontwoman of Dead Sara. The decision to recruit Emily was taken after Linkin Park recently performed without a main vocalist.
