Danish badminton player Mathias Christiansen has been given a one-year ban from competing by the Danish Sports Federation Doping Agency.
The doubles specialist player was sentenced from participating in international badminton events because he failed to make a report to the Danish Anti-Doping Agency.
Christiansen failed to report his place of residence every day for a certain period of time. The reporting error has occurred three times in a year.
The Danish Anti-Doping Agency has issued strict sanctions to Christiansen. He is banned from participating in international badminton events for one year.
The one-year ban received by Christiansen is the lightest punishment related to the error in filling out the Danish Anti-Doping Agency’s report.
Christiansen was deemed to have made a mistake but was deemed not to have intended to commit data fraud.
“I am happy that there has now been clarification of this matter and that I have been given the minimum possible quarantine punishment,” Christiansen explained as reported by Badminton Denmark.
“I had no intention of cheating at all, and the verdict reflects that the Doping Board shares the same opinion. Now I want to focus on training and stand as strong as possible after the quarantine is over,” he added.
Ahead of the sentence, Christiansen had been training privately at the Yonex Peter Gade Academy.
Meanwhile, Badminton Denmark manager Jens Meibom regretted the punishment that Christiansen had to serve, but on the other hand he also respected the rules that were enforced.
“We regret that we have to train without Mathias next year, but we recognize and respect that it is the rule. We are happy that Mathias has received clarification and has been fully involved in training. We are of course looking forward to him returning to national team training after the quarantine is over,” said Meibom.
Christiansen is currently ranked 13th in the mixed doubles rankings with Alexandra Boje.
