Omani Media Claims Ahmed Al Kaf Banned from Officiating the Asian Champions League Match

Omani media revealed that controversial Bahrain vs Indonesia referee Ahmed Al Kaf was banned from officiating the Al Ain vs Al Hilal match in the Asian Champions League.

The referee from Oman is in the spotlight because of his controversial decision when officiating the Bahrain vs Indonesia match. He was reportedly banned from officiating the Al Ain vs Al Hilal match in the Asian Champions League on Monday (10/21/2024).

This news was revealed by Omani football journalist Khamis Al Balushi on the Al Dakka television program.

In the program, Khamis Al Balushi revealed that he received information from a trusted source who said that referee Ahmed Al Kaf was banned from officiating the Al Ain vs Al Hilal match.

“Journalist Khamis Al Balushi on the Al-Dakka program revealed that according to one of his personal sources, Ahmed Al Kaf should not be the referee for the match between Al Ain vs Al Hilal in the Asian Champions League on Monday, October 21,” said Omani sports media, Bahla 24.

Similar news was also conveyed by another Omani sports media, Info Sport 2, via social media X.

The Ahmed Al Kaf controversy was not only discussed in Indonesia, but also became a hot topic in Oman, his home country.

In fact, Ahmed Al Kaf was also in the spotlight of the media in Saudi Arabia because the referee received many threats from Indonesian supporters who were dissatisfied with a number of his controversial decisions when leading the Bahrain vs Indonesia match.

The performance of referee Ahmed Al Kaf was highlighted because it was considered detrimental to the Indonesian National Team when they drew 2-2 against Bahrain in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Al Kaf gave more injury time in the second half. The referee from Oman initially gave six minutes of additional time, but the match lasted 101 minutes at the Bahrain National Stadium, Riffa, Thursday (10/10/2024).

The additional injury time resulted in Mohamed Marhoon’s second goal in the 90+9 minute. This goal made the score 2-2 and Indonesia was forced to accept one point.
