Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Juventus hosted Stuttgart at the Allianz Stadium in matchday 3 of the 2024/2025 Champions League. Unexpectedly, Juve was overwhelmed by the onslaught of the visiting team.
Stuttgart immediately stepped on the gas from the first minute of the match. Juve were made to struggle to face the opponent’s attacks. 15 minutes in, the visiting team had already fired 5 shots, Juve 0.
Stuttgart’s dominance continued until the 30th minute of the match. They confined Juve in their own playing area. Juve’s movements were limited, and they had only fired one shot.
Even so, there were no goals until the end of the first 45 minutes. Stuttgart had made 12 shots, Juventus only 1, the match was lopsided.
In the second half, Juve tried to rise. Thiago Motta made three direct substitutions in the 55th minute, hoping to boost his squad’s game.
Even so, until 70 minutes into the match, Juve still found it difficult to put up resistance. Stuttgart, on the other hand, had recorded 8 shots on target, but had not yet become a goal.
In the 84th minute, a disaster for Juve. Danilo was sent off the field after receiving a second yellow card. Stuttgart then played more freely.
The goal that Stuttgart had been waiting for finally came in the 90+2 minute. An open play scheme, Millot’s pass was met by El Bilal Toure with a low shot to the bottom right side of the opponent’s goal. Goal! Juve 0-1 Stuttgart.
Mattia Perin was chosen as the best player or man of the match Juventus vs Stuttgart. Juve lost 0-1 and was clearly disappointing. However, if Perin was not there, Juve might have lost by a bigger score.
Mattia Perin saved Juventus’ face. They played in front of their own supporters and were unfortunately under pressure for 90 minutes. Luckily Juve only lost by one goal.
The source of that luck was Perin. The 31-year-old goalkeeper made a total of 8 important saves and almost all of them were for perfect balls that had a high probability of being scored.
Perin may have been unlucky to concede in the final minutes, but his hard work for 90 minutes cannot be ignored. He was chosen as the official man of the match by UEFA.
