Arsenal were forced to draw against Chelsea in the 11th week of the 2024/2025 Premier League at Stamford Bridge, Sunday (10/11/2024).
This duel was fierce and intense. The match was tough but both teams finally attacked each other and created several opportunities to score goals.
Chelsea’s goal was scored by Pedro Neto. While Arsenal’s goal was scored by Gabriel Martinelli.
This result makes Arsenal collect 19 points from 11 matches and they are in fourth place in the 2024/2025 Premier League standings. Meanwhile, Chelsea also collected the same points but they are in third place because they have a superior goal difference.
At the start of the match, Chelsea and Arsenal tried to step on the gas. They both played aggressively.
However, Arsenal were finally able to dominate the match. They often pressured Chelsea in their own area. The Blues had tried to get out of the pressure by slowing down the tempo of the game but it didn’t work.
Chelsea tried several times to launch counterattacks but failed. On the other hand, Arsenal had difficulty breaking down the Blues’ defense.
In the 24th minute, a golden opportunity finally emerged. This opportunity was actually obtained by Chelsea. Pedro Neto successfully outwitted Ben White and released a cross to the far post. The ball was met by Malo Gusto’s header but unfortunately it went wide of the target.
In the 27th minute, Arsenal finally got a golden opportunity too. Saka fired a shot from outside the penalty box but it was blocked by a Chelsea defender. The rebound was controlled by Martinelli on the left halfspace and he entered the penalty box freely. He tried to shoot at the far post but the ball was still blocked by Sanchez.
In the 32nd minute, Arsenal finally scored a goal. They got a free kick not far from the penalty box which was executed quickly by Declan Rice. The ball was passed flat to Kai Havertz who, despite being pressed by the opponent, was still able to break through Sanchez’s goal from close range. However, Havertz’s celebration did not last long. From the VAR check, it was known that he was caught in a slight offside trap before receiving the ball.
After that, the game started to get tougher and fiercer. Chelsea began to be able to develop their game.
But in the end no goals were scored in the first 45 minutes. Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal.
In the second half, Chelsea immediately stepped up. They played fast and were able to put pressure on Arsenal’s defense.
In the 53rd minute, Chelsea had a chance from Fofana’s tap in front of Arsenal’s goal, utilizing Madueke’s cross. However, the ball bounced off target.
But Arsenal were able to score first. In the 60th minute, Martinelli received a lob pass from Odegaard from the right side outside Chelsea’s penalty box. He was standing free in the left halfspace of The Blues’ defense. From a narrow angle, Martinelli then broke through Sanchez’s goal. 0-1!
In the 66th minute, Timber threatened with a shot from outside the penalty box. However, the ball missed the right side of Chelsea’s goal by a small margin.
In the 70th minute, Chelsea were finally able to score a reply goal. Initially, Enzo gave a short pass to Pedro Neto who moved from the left to the middle of the field. He then released a left-footed shot from outside the penalty box and the ball nestled in the left side of Arsenal’s goal. 1-1!
In the 75th minute, Chelsea could score another goal through Jackson. However, the goal was disallowed because the striker was previously caught offside.
In the 83rd minute, Chelsea had a chance from Jackson’s header from close range, after Gabriel failed to clear the air ball out of Arsenal’s defense area. Fortunately, his header went straight to Raya.
The duel then immediately opened up. Both teams attacked each other. However, in the end, no more goals were scored. Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal.
