Manchester United vs Leicester City Result: Score 3-0

Manchester United successfully defeated Leicester City with a landslide score of 3-0 in the 2024/2025 Premier League week 11 match held at Old Trafford, Sunday (10/11/2024).

Two of Man United’s winning goals over Leicester were scored in the first half through Bruno Fernandes’ action and Victor Kristiansen’s own goal. Alejandro Garnacho completed his team’s victory thanks to his goal in the second half.

Thanks to this result, Man United is now ranked 13th in the standings with 15 points. On the other hand, Leicester is in 15th position with 10 points.

For the record, this is Man United’s last match with Ruud van Nistelrooy as interim coach. After this, Man United will start to be coached by their new permanent manager, Ruben Amorim.

Man United tried to play aggressively from the start of the match. However, Marcus Rashford et al. still had difficulty breaking down the visitors’ tight defense.

Man United was only able to open the lead in the 17th minute through Fernandes’ beautiful goal. Receiving a brilliant assist from Amad Diallo, Fernandes unleashed a hard shot from long range to break through Mads Hermansen’s goal.

Man United’s lead increased in the 38th minute. Noussair Mazraoui’s crossing was headed by Fernandes in the penalty box. The ball hit Victor Kristiansen’s knee before going into the goal. The score of 2-0 closed the first half.

Returning from the locker room, Man United still dominated the game. To increase the breakthrough power, Van Nistelrooy also brought in Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee.

Man United was only able to increase the lead in the 82nd minute. Garnacho’s curved shot from outside the penalty box slid smoothly into the top corner of Leicester’s goal without Hermansen being able to anticipate it.

There were no additional goals scored in the remaining time. The score of 3-0 for Man United’s victory was the final result of this match.

It is unclear whether Van Nistelrooy will remain at the club as part of Amorim’s coaching staff, but the former Man United forward was proud of his short time in charge at Old Trafford.

“It was professional, you could see the players fighting throughout the game,” said Van Nistelrooy.

“We scored two good goals and had some good chances, but we didn’t have real control of the game.

“I enjoyed it a lot, it was a short but great period. We were in an uncertain position, but we tried to do our job and help the club, that’s important.”

The Dutchman took over after the sacking of Erik ten Hag last month and is unbeaten in his short spell in charge, winning three games and drawing one, with Ruben Amorim set to take over after the international break.

“There was a lot of feeling there, the way the fans supported me and the team always in difficult moments. It was a special moment. To finish this run with a good result and a good relationship, I can’t thank them enough,” Van Nistelrooy added.

“We will see what the plan is now.

“It’s a big responsibility; I take it very seriously. I want to help and take Man United to a better place. That’s my aim. With three wins and one draw, that’s the standard you want to develop as a club.

“The relationship with the fans is there, I really feel it. This is what Man United is all about.”

Ahead of the Leicester game, United had scored just nine goals in the league, their lowest tally in 10 games in Premier League history.

Fernandes has scored four goals under Van Nistelrooy, having failed to score in the league before, and registered his 100th Premier League goal with an assist for Garnacho.

“You can see the quality of the team in our goals, we also didn’t give away many chances,” added Van Nistelrooy.

“We tried to stabilise ourselves after a difficult and emotional period. We wanted to get the players to perform at their best, we gave them the right feeling and make them believe.

“They are three important points. In four games, Bruno scored some important goals, also gave assists, so he is back in a good form. That’s Bruno helping the team the most.”
