Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly a new manager of the England national team and has replaced Gareth Southgate.
This has followed great anticipation and discussions involving Tuchel who eventually agreed to ink an 18 month deal with the FA.
The German is expected to assume the position on January 1, 2025, after Southgate steps down for the final after the Euro 2024.
Tuchel, who is an acclaimed strategist with good amount of managerial experience at trusted clubs such as Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich will offer a new dimension to the England team.
His appointment means a change from Southgate, who was an under-21 head coach for eight years and led the English team to the Euro 2020 final and a fourth place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Nevertheless, the recent poor performance in the Euro 2024 final was a cause of Southgate’s exit as the English manager.
It was a strategic plan of the FA to approach Tuchel in a bid to bring new thinking in the national team.
Tuchel’s high productivity in creating optimised game strategies, as well as his flexibility currently makes him an attractive coach for a very talented team.
Opting not to reveal any further backgrounds on the search for Southgate’s replacement, the FA has considered several big names, including Pep Guardiola from Manchester City and the then Interim Manager, Lee Carsley.
But finally Tuchel was favourite and his appointment shows that FA is very serious to get the best manager for national team.
During his first press conference as England head coach Tuchel admitted the tough work that lies ahead but appeared upbeat.
“I am grateful for this opportunity to be given this responsibilities as well as having an opportunity to be associated with so many talented players.” Tuchel said.
“My aim is to continue the good work of Gareth and take England to the international level,” he added.
While Tuchel is set on the Three Lion’s dugout, he will find himself navigating uncharted territories among them are future qualifiers and accommodation of new talents into the team.
The player’s experience in tactics and the ability to perform during the important matches will be useful as Tuchel tries to bring England back into the premier league of football playing nations.
