Inter Milan successfully defeated RB Leipzig with a score of 1-0 in the matchday 5 League Phase of the 2024/2025 Champions League at Giuseppe Meazza, Tuesday (11/26/2024).
Inter’s only winning goal over Leipzig was created in the middle of the first half through Castello Lukeba’s own goal.
Thanks to this result, Inter is temporarily entitled to rise to the top of the League Phase standings with 13 points. Meanwhile, Leipzig is slumped at the bottom with no points at all.

Inter immediately controlled the game from the kick-off. The first chance was created in the 13th minute through Federico Dimarco’s kick from the right, but the ball went to the side of Leipzig’s goal.
Lautaro Martinez’s attempt in the 18th minute also failed to produce a goal for Inter after being secured by Leipzig’s goalkeeper, Peter Gulacsi.
Inter only opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Starting from Federico Dimarco’s free kick, the ball hit Castello Lukeba’s foot before entering the goal. Inter 1-0 RB Leipzig.
Leipzig tried to equalize in the remaining time of the first half. However, the score of 1-0 lasted until half-time.
Inter still controlled the game in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Hakan Calhanoglu made an attempt that was still secured by Peter Gulacsi.
Leipzig tried to fight back and was able to provide a threat in the 69th minute through Antonio Nusa. However, Inter’s goalkeeper, Yann Sommer was still able to keep his goal from conceding.
Inter managed to score a goal in injury time through Henrikh Mkhitaryan. However, the goal was disallowed due to a previous foul by Marcus Thuram.
Inter Milan’s 1-0 lead lasted until the end of the match.
Thanks to this result, Inter Milan is now the only team that has never conceded a goal in the Champions League.
In the previous four matches, Inter Milan held Man City to a 0-0 draw, then won 4-0 over Red Star Belgrade, 1-0 over Young Boys, and 1-0 over Arsenal.
After the match, Hakan Calhanoglu said that this match was similar to when they played against Arsenal.
When playing against the Gunners, Inter Milan also only scored one goal despite creating many chances.
The only goal for Simone Inzaghi’s team was scored by Hakan Calhanoglu.
However, Inter Milan were able to withstand the onslaught of Arsenal who had more chances to score goals.
“We are happy, this is an extraordinary result for us to stay in the top position,” Calhanoglu told Inter TV.
“Maybe we should have scored more goals considering everything we created.”
“But in the end, like against Arsenal, we were able to hold on and prove that we are also good defensively,” he added.
