Riot Games continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to building an esports community in Indonesia, especially for their flagship game, VALORANT. After successfully holding various national and international tournaments throughout this year, now Riot Games is targeting students throughout Indonesia by presenting the VALORANT Campus Protocol Class of 2024. This tournament is an event to find and develop young talents in the campus environment while contributing to the growth of the esports ecosystem in Indonesia.
VALORANT Campus Protocol Class of 2024 brings together 24 teams representing universities from all over Indonesia who will compete for the championship title. As part of Riot Games’ grand vision in developing esports among young people, this tournament is designed with an intense and strategic competition scheme, where each team will be tested on their strategic acumen and adaptability.
The initial stage of the tournament begins with an online qualifier that will take place from November 12-15, 2024. In this round, the 24 participating teams are divided into three groups with a single elimination format. Each team only gets one chance in each match, which means they have to play their best from the start to avoid elimination. This single elimination format presents a more intense competitive atmosphere and requires players to think quickly in adjusting their strategies during the game.
Although only three teams will advance to the next round, the competition in the qualifier stage is a proving ground for each player and coach in preparing their team to face the pressure-filled match situation. Every move, rotation, and decision in the game will greatly affect the success of the team.
After going through an intense qualification stage, the top three teams from each group managed to secure a place in the playoffs. This round is scheduled to take place on November 20, 2024 in Bandung, and this time Riot Games also invited one top team to compete in the playoffs, so that a total of four teams will compete in this stage. These four teams compete in a best-of-1 format in the semifinals, with the two teams that emerge as winners will continue their journey to the Grand Final.
The playoffs became even more interesting because it was held offline. Bandung, the host, was chosen as the location for the match to provide a more intense playing experience for the players, as well as giving them the opportunity to experience the live competition atmosphere that is rarely found in online tournaments. With the live competition atmosphere, the players were challenged to overcome real pressure on the field while maintaining their best performance in front of the audience.
