West Ham United on Monday secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League match.
The match not only offered crucial set pieces for the struggling Hammers but also offered a form of catharsis for Michail Antonio, who was involved a serious car accident recently.
At some point after the match, Tomas Soucek was keen to show his support for Antonio and confirm that the teammates approve of him.
“The goal was for him. I dedicated it to him. I said before the game I really wanted to score even more today,” Soucek said.
“He’s been here since I came here. He is really my favourite. I said it would be tough for me to play without him.
“I’m happy that he is doing fine. He is a massive player and he is in my heart. It was really tough for us.
“I was so scared what was going to happen. It was a really tough week for him, his family and us.” Soucek added.
Antonio has had surgery and will stay in hospital for the next few days as he is monitored for any complications.
The striker had a road accident with a car in Essex on Saturday. His was slightly damaged at the driver-side and some pictures of the car spread on social media raised lots of concern.
“West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon.” West Ham said in a statement.
This win for West Ham and their manager Julen Lopetegui was important as it put distance between the team and the battle against the bottom three.
A win could help improve Lopetegui lot after his team have struggled in recent games that saw him come under intense pressure to change his tactics.
The pressure in the Premier League is constant, and a series of wins will be useful for Lopetegui and West Ham in the fight for this season.
