Victor Wembanyama wishes to win titles with the French national team and therefore needs to return to euroBasket instead of taking some time off the NBA.
When asked in an interview with the newspaper L’Equipe, the star of the San Antonio Spurs was sure to declare that he intends to play in all the competitions for his team.
“I don’t know the exact dates, but there is always time to be part of the national team.” Wembanyama said.
“You just have to sacrifice a little bit of your physical preparation for the following season. So yes, it is my goal to be part of the French national team every year,” Wembanyama added.
Additionally, Wembanyama was questioned if he has already begun negotiations with the new French national team coach.
The pivot stated that he has but has not set any sort or kind of deadline for training with the national team.
“Yes, I have spoken to him briefly since he became coach. But we have not discussed any kind of deadline,” Wembanyama said.
However, despite Wembanyama’s performance, France is still fighting for a place in EuroBasket. In fact, this tournament could possibly have a line up of NBA players.
There are now three of that type namely Luka Doncic from Slovenia and Nikola Jokic from Serbia and lastly, Giannis Antetokounmpo from Greek and Rudy Gobert playing for the French team.
The tournament is expected to be held between August 27th and September 14th. Therefore, the competition will be organised in four different countries.
These are Cyprus, Latvia, Poland and Finland that I have selected to draw comparison with.
By the way, France was the second at Paris 2024 Olympics and the team had a very close battle with Americans in the final match.
