Pirelli CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera told he was completely open to the idea of a return of competition between tire manufactures in F1 in the future. Pirelli manufacture has been F1’s sole tyre supplier since their came back to the championship in 2011 edition and recently has a deal that runs up until the end of 2019 season.
Recently, on the occasion of the Motorsport Network’s F1 Fans’ Global Survey, 69.4% of respondents were in favor of a return to a competitive situation among tyre manufactures. This scenario has not been seen since 2006, when Michelin was involved in the discipline alongside Bridgestone.
When questioned about the impact of the reopening of competition and the arrival of a competitor manufacture, Provera does not mind to compete with the other manufactures.
“We run around the world, both alone and against others,” Provera said to media. “We like competition, when we race with others, we win, we are ready for any competition, with anyone. I have never heard, in recent years, talk about the will to change.
On the issue of costs in the event of competition, the Italian would be armed to face them because of their recent past in Formula one. “It is already quite expensive, even without competition. But we have a lot experiences, we are capitalizing a lot on these last years. ” Provera said.
“We see F1 as the most attractive race in the world and Pireeli is the world’s largest manufacture of motosports. In a year and a half year, more or less, halfway through [the current deal] I don’t see any issue.” he added.

At the last call for tenders carried by F1, Michelin responded with a proposal following their own specifications. Under the impetus of Bernie Ecclestone, Pirelli’s confidence had been extended. For the current single manufacturer, the goal is to remain involved beyond the current agreement.
