George St-Pierre keeps hope to face Michael Bisping

Despite his fight against UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping was canceled by UFC president Dana White last month, George St-Pierre believes he will return to the octagon sooner.

“I talked to Dana a few days ago and he wrote a letter to me,” Pierrr told media. “I tried to convince him that it was a good thing that I found myself in a good situation when I returned. I take a lot of risks and I need to get something out of it.

“Big risks and big rewards, this is what a fight against Michael Bisping offers me. It is he who holds the record of the greatest number of victories in the history of the UFC. He just beat my record, but if I hit him, I’m going to beat him, I know Michael will retire, I think, if he gets another defeat.

“I talked to Dana and at the end of the conversation he said that we’ll look at this and we’ll see what will happen.” he added.

Previously, the UFC was planning to oppose the two fighters at UFC 213 this summer, but a Pierre injury to the eye requiring surgery upset the organization’s plans. He later announced that he could not fight until October, prompting White to cancel the fight immediately. A little after, Bisping announced that a knee injury would prevent him from fighting before the fall.

The holding of an interim middleweight title fight between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker at UFC 213 has since been announced. It remains to be seen whether the UFC will then offer the winner of this clash the chance to compete against champions Michael Bisping.

If this is not the case, Pierre believes that his fight against Bisping in New York next November would be perfect time and place. “It would be fantastic. It would be a historic moment. I want it to be as big as possible for the UFC, the fans and everyone. I think that would be the fight that everybody wants to see.” Pierre told.

Although White had repeatedly stated that GSP would have try to recover his title of welterweight on his return to competition, Pierre is still convinced that he will instead to the conquest of his second belt.
