“Since his arrival at Santiago Bernabeu in July 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo has always shown a clear will to fulfill all his tax obligation. We are absolutely convinced that our player will prove his total innocence in this process.

“Real Madrid hope that justice is done as quickly as possible so that his innocence can be proven as soon as possible.” Real Madrid added.

Previously, one of the Spain taxman, Mollinedo, suggested Ronaldo may well be facing time in prison. He said that Ronaldo could have defrauded more than 150  million euros.

“The information abou Cristiano Ronaldo makes it look like he could have defrauded more than 150 million euros.” Mollinedo said. “We’d be looking at a major fiscal crime. This would fit a minimum prison sentence for each tax year of the fraud. If the open inspection is for three years, then it would be a minimum of six years in prison.

“If, before two months have passed from the opening of the investigation, they legally recognise the facts and pay back the defrauded amount, the punishment can be reduced.” he added.
