Manchester United star Luke Shaw could be up for sale

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to sign a full-back of proven quality and could put Luke Shaw up for sale to raise funds for the move. Shaw, 22, had a difficult campaign last term and played just once between December and March despite being deemed match fit throughout. The England international is keen to stay at Old Trafford and his agent insisted last week that Shaw ‘loves’ the club.

However, Mourinho remains keen on signing a dynamic left-back and could let Shaw go to raise funds and make room for the signing, according to the Daily Record. Shaw is currently injured but has resumed full training with his team-mates and is expected to be match fit by September. The former Southampton defender has had little luck since sealing a £30million move to the club in 2014 and suffered a horrific double leg break in a clash with PSV Eindhoven in 2015. Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton are all likely to be interested in Shaw should he become available, while there will be interest from abroad. Mourinho is believed to be keen on signing Tottenham ace Danny Rose but United’s relationship with Spurs means a deal is unlikely. Luke Shaw has ‘no excuse’ for not being in the right condition, according to former Manchester City defender Danny Mills.

The Manchester United star was brutally criticised by Jose Mourinho for his lack of commitment and focus in recent times, while he has not featured for the club since the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the start of March. And Mills believes Mourinho is right to ditch Shaw in order to stop the poor attitude spreading around the younger players. ‘I think Mourinho has had enough and thinks he can’t let this attitude poison any youngsters or drip feed into others,’ Mills told the BBC.

‘Would Sir Alex Ferguson have stood for this? No. Fergie would have just got rid of him. Simple as that. ‘Fans and managers will forgive you for missing a goal, for making a mistake or not having the greatest touch, as long as you work hard. That should be mandatory and pre-requisite for any footballer. ‘It is all about discipline, dedication and desire. It appears Luke Shaw isn’t giving it his all. He has all the ability in the world but it all comes down to attitude. ‘Even if he has been injured, there is no excuse not to keep the weight off or to be as fit as you possibly can be and look like you are making the biggest effort ever. It is your job. ‘There is no excuse whatsoever.’
