Sung Hyun Park wins at the 2017 Canadian Women’s Open

South Korea’s Sung Hyun Park added a victory to the Canadian Women’s Open to her title at the US Women’s Open on last weekend at the course of the Ottawa Hunt Golf Club.

Park managed a birdie at the last hole and played 64 (minus 7) to win the tournament by two strokes ahead of her South Korean fellow Mirim Lee. Park showed a cumulative score of minus-13. She won the Women’s Open at the United States last month for a first win on the LPGA circuit.

Speaking to media, Park said she will enjoy herself after this tournament. She insists to visit the Disney Land for the first time.

“I’ve never been to Disney Land. I think I have no choice to go this time,” Park said. “I have not seen my dog for a long time so I will have fun with him on my vacation.” she added.

Park started the day tried for 12th place, but she didn’t commit any bugs in the final round and she managed seven birdies. She had already made her mark on the title before the final group settled on the 18th hole.

“I’m a little nervous when I play in the last group, but not today,” Park said. “Today I was part of a group that started a bit earlier and I was very comfortable in my shots.” Park added.

Nicole Broch Larsen and Mo Martin, who led the third round, slipped into the standings after a more difficult day. Park was four laps behind them when she started from the first tee on Sunday.

Larsen handed in a 70 card and fiished third in the tournament with Cristie Kerr (69), In Gee chun (70), Shanshan Feng (68) and Marina Alex (68). Martin finished the race in 72 rounds, eights with Jane Park (65) and Hyo Joo Kim (66).

Local favourite, Canadian Brooke M. Henderson, played 71 and finished tied for 12th, minus-7. The day before, she had equaled a course record of 63.

“I was not nervous, but I felt some tension,” Henderson said. “I wanted to win so much that my game may have been slightly affected. Some of my wraps have passed so close to the bottom of the cup. I was a little discouraged.” Henderson added.
