No sportsmanship, no title, no medal, could make us ashamed. Lessons must be taken the Minister of Youth and Sports. We know that, since 1950 Indonesia started to be a champion in world badminton. Slowly but surely, Indonesian badminton achievement began formed. Achievement after achievement had been carved by our badminton players. Just says in man’s single player: Tan Joe Hok, Rudi Hartono,Lim Swie King, Icuk Sugiarto, Haryanto Arbi, Alan Budukusuma, and the last one Taufik Hidayat. In women’s single player: Minarni, Retno Koestijah, Ruth Damayanti, and the phenomenal Susi Susanti. In double player: Eliza Nathanael, Zelin Resiana, Rexy Mainaky, Ricky Subagja, Candra Wijaya, Tony Gunawan, so on.
Yet, seen from our achievement at present, we are still shuffling with the lack of title. Not intended to look down any level tournaments. At this time the reality of Indonesian badminton is very apprehensive.
Now, since Haryanto Arbi became last winning all England in 1994, there was no man’s single who follow him up. Except Taufik Hidayat who won the Olympic gold in 2004 and Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan in 2008. Now there is no longer the title of Uber cup, Thomas cup, Sudirman cup for our country. The reality at this time we are losing the achievements of Malaysia, South Korea, Denmark, and even China.

Indonesia’s badminton achievement in recent years has declined. Squint from the declining of the Indonesian badminton achievements nowadays, there are several factors caused :
a) The lack of junior players
b) The PBSI management less of transparent.
c) The lack of facilities for athletes
d) Deterioration in mental and discipline of players
e) There is no future guarantee of the government
To be a champion there is no instant way. However, PBSI should be increased up to restore the performance of Indonesian badminton.
“The mental of our badminton players now unlikely used to. But mentally also disciplines of athletes are something that must be followed and maintained.” Said former all England champion Tan Joe Hok.
It is time the PBSI to open ears, to open eyes. The PBSI can probably choose young talented athlete in every region of Indonesia. If not settled, Indonesian badminton accomplishment may be pursued by other countries. Just say India, Thailand, Spain, or Singapore. Just look at Spain woman player Carolina Marin who went success on the Malaysian open 2015.
Do not let our badminton athletes slumped. And do not let the achievements of our former badminton athletes then living into history only. By the decreased performance in Indonesia athletes, the PBSI must make real program sooner. There is a hope in 2016. It means we can prove our best badminton on Olympic Games 2016. Tomorrow never die, and not ashamed anymore.
