Pep Guardiola has a big task to complete and it is something which appears to be his biggest challenge till date and this is to make Manchester City one of Europe’s elite club. Even Guardiola previous tasks with clubs Barcelona and Bayern Munch were not that easy and he did start from a much higher base. City was almost close to that marker however City scraped into fourth place in the Premier League on goal difference last season.
Manchester City has shown great improvement and has made great strides since the club has been taken over by Sheikh Mansour in 2008. The club won the league after four years under his successor Roberto Mancino post of Mark Hughes spending Christmas in the relegation zone. This Italian fostered the previously absent winning mentality and the Eastland’s and broke the clubs long spell without any major success by winning the FA cup in 2011.
If we look back the history of the club Mancini made it reach to a great level and even it was expected that Manuel Pelegrini will add more to its already made progress. City won in its first domestic double in the Chilean debut and this seemed to be perfect start for the club in the League cup in 2014.
Once City sacked Mancini they wanted Guardiola to come in and take over the charge. As per a statement confirmed by the club they were in discussion with Catalan in 2012 when they announced that he has to take over from Pellegrini however the club was not able to secure his services. This move actually added some difficulty for Pellegrini that how could he radically change a club that was waiting for someone else to come in and take the charge. He played slow and was just killing time and keeping things ticking over meaning his three trophies in three years in charge were more than adequate.
Now Guardiola has been granted complete control of the club. This makes a point here as otherwise there is no meaning in bringing the most coveted manager in world football and then tying his hands. Club’s manager along with the director of football Txiki Begiristian and chief executive Ferran Soriano has the ability and power to run the club from the top down. Now Guardiola’s most difficult task is to rebuild a strong team.
