A shocking victory at US Open

Us Open – a tournament where pretty much everything can happen. This parole obviously won’t change this year neither! The shocking victory on the court was fatal for Petra Kvitova this time. The deadly moment for the further playing of Petra Kvitova came on the sixth day of the US Open championship on Armstrong Stadium.  Petra Kvitova that has never left the tournament beyond the fourth round this season has been beaten by a qualifier Aleksandra Krunic. Aleksandra Krunic is currently ranked 145th and had never won such a big tournament such as US Open or any other grand slam. Many of the spectators didn’t expect Aleksandra to win and she affirmed that she also felt the same way. Aleksandra stated for the papers that it was an honor for her to even be on the same tennis court with Petra and that she certainly didn’t expect to win. However, most of people doesn’t even know a thing about this US Open qualifier. The humble Aleksandra also pointed out the she didn’t expect so many people to cheer for her.

Who is in fact Aleksandra Krunic?

Aleksandra Krunic was born in Moscow, Russia. She trained in Spartak Tennis Club in Moscow that was once a residence for all the Russian top players (and this list would certainly include Elena Dementieva and Dinara Safina).  Aleksandra turned pro in 2009 and she did made her debut in Budapest in 2011. Before the 145th place on the WTA her score was No. 126 that she has set on September the 16th 2013. Provided that she is mostly unfamiliar even to the most addicted tennis fans it is good to know that her origin she is no w the 5th Serbian female tennis player (after Ivanovic, Jankovic, Jovanovski and Jaksic).

Aleksandra Krunic is attending Singidunum University in Serbia and the expected date of the end of her studies is 2014 (obtaining a degree in economics).

She did point out that her favorite active tennis player is the world’s No.10 Serbian Jelena Jankovic. What Aleksandra Krunic appreciates the most about Jelena is her “fighting spirit” as she claims.

The next big step for Aleksandra Krunic is Victoria Azarenka, a former WTA No. 1. Azarenka is currently No. 16 on the WTA list but stated for the papers that this is going to be a tough match provided that Aleksandra Krunic won so many matches in a row and that she is obviously inspired.
