AC Milan coach, Stefano Pioli, commented on the result of the match against Genoa in the Coppa Italia round of 16 2021-2022. Even though he managed to bring AC Milan to victory and strolled into the quarter-finals, Pioli is still not satisfied.
Pioli was disappointed with his own tactics when overthrowing Genoa. The reason is, his foster children have to struggle until the extension of the round.
As is known, a fierce duel was presented in the AC Milan meeting against Genoa at the San Siro, Friday (14/1/2022). Rossoneri-AC Milan’s nickname- failed to start the match nicely because they had to fall behind first through Leo Skiri Ostigard’s quick goal in the 17th minute.
This happened when Milan actually dominated the duel. They were only able to break the deadlock in the 74th minute through the action of Olivier Giroud. In fact, the opportunities are quite a lot.
The bluntness of their attack line was the cause of not being able to secure a victory in 90 minutes of normal time. The home team’s final finishing looked less than good because his shots often deviated from goal.
Luckily, Rafael Leao and Alexis Saelemekers came to the rescue. They were able to score goals in extra time. The Rossoneri also survived the threat of a penalty shootout which had to be mentally and lucky.
Even so, the difficulties experienced by the San Siro camp did not come from the players on the field. Pioli admits that his tactics were wrong to make it difficult for Giroud and colleagues.
“I didn’t do a good job, because we didn’t approach the game well and this creates difficulties for you,” Pioli admitted, quoted by Tuttomercatoweb, Friday (14/1/2022). His tactics are considered to make the intensity and tempo of the game less able to score goals in the full 90 minutes. He was also grateful that his foster children could win despite the difficulties. “My fault, too little energy, too little intensity and rhythm,” concluded Pioli briefly.
