AC Milan had to bite their fingers after being held to a 1-1 draw by AS Roma. The match was tough for 90 minutes. The Rossoneri failed to get full points despite playing at home.
Sunday, December 29, 2024, Milan will face Roma at the San Siro in the continuation of the 2024/2025 Serie A. This match is important for Milan to continue to approach the top four.
This time, Milan actually appeared more dominant in front of their own supporters, but Roma fought back well. Many of Milan’s opportunities were wasted because the final execution was not optimal.
Milan took the lead first through Tijjani Reijnders’ goal in the 16th minute. Roma quickly equalized in the 23rd minute through Paulo Dybala’s action.
Both teams had to be satisfied with sharing one point which did not change their position in the 2024/2025 Italian League standings. Milan is in 8th place, Roma is in 10th place.
Milan opened the scoring through Tijjani Reijnders’ spectacular goal. Starting from Youssouf Fofana’s sprint in midfield, the ball was passed to Alvaro Morata who passed the ball to the right side. Reijnders finished the attack with a curling shot that hit the top corner of the goal.
However, Roma put up fierce resistance. Their equalizer came through brilliant action by Artem Dovbyk and Paulo Dybala. Niccolo Pisilli’s pass was lifted by Dovbyk using his heel, giving Dybala the perfect space to release a beautiful volley that left Mike Maignan speechless.
The second half started with high intensity, with Ismael Bennacer returning to the pitch after a long absence. Milan continued to press, but Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar was solid in denying Bennacer and Samuel Chukwueze from outside the penalty box.
On the other side, Roma almost scored through a quick counter-attack. Dovbyk was the main threat, but Maignan performed brilliantly with several crucial saves, including from Stephan El Shaarawy’s curling shot.
Milan were furious when the referee refused to award a penalty after Reijnders was brought down by Pisilli in the penalty box, an incident that saw Milan coach Paulo Fonseca sent off for excessive protest.
Chukwueze became the latest addition to Milan’s injury list after limping off the pitch in the second half. Even so, the Rossoneri continued to play aggressively until the final minute. However, their efforts were not enough to add to the goals.
Roma also almost stole the win through chances from Pisilli and Dybala, but Milan’s defense managed to hold on well.
