After Returning 15 Points, Juventus Threatened to Be Banned from Appearing in the 2023-2024 Champions League

After returning 15 points, Juventus are actually threatened with being banned from appearing in the 2023-2024 Champions League. European Football Federation (UEFA) reportedly will intervene directly after the appeal made by Juventus to the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI).

Last week, Juventus regained the 15 points they took back in January 2023. This made Massimiliano Allegri’s team skyrocket from seventh to third place in the 2022-2023 Italian League standings.

There is not yet sufficient evidence for the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) to impose a penalty on the alleged manipulation of financial statements. However, a new trial will be held and Juventus are still facing punishment.

A new penalty will be given if strong evidence has been found, but the sanction will take effect starting next season. Apart from the FIGC sanctions, Juventus must face the threat of being kicked out of European competition next season.

As reported by Football-Italy, Tuesday (25/4/2023), UEFA is also investigating allegations of violations of Financial Fair Play (FFP), which were committed by the Bianconeri – nicknamed Juventus – September 2022. Previously, Juventus had already paid a fine but along with the emergence of new cases, then additional penalties can be applied.

According to the report, Juventus is in danger of being kicked out of European competitions, including the Champions League, for next season if they qualify. If they do not qualify in the next season, then it will be carried over to the next season.

“If Juventus fail to qualify for the Champions League, Europa League or European Conference League, UEFA’s urgency will be removed, allowing them to wait on the Italian justice system. This will be a problem for the Bianconeri, however, due to the possibility that exclusion from the competition could be postponed until the 2024-2025 season,” wrote the Football Italia report, quoted on Tuesday (25/4/2023).

At this time, Juventus is still in third place in the 2022-2023 Italian League standings with a record of 59 points. They are also still competing in the semifinals of the 2022-2023 Europa League, facing Sevilla.
