Mega Star of the Argentina National Team, Lionel Messi has previously stated that the 2022 edition will be his last World Cup. However, another La Albiceleste player – another Argentine nickname – Alexis Mac Allister hopes that the player nicknamed La Pulga is willing to appear at the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
As is known, Argentina succeeded in securing the 2022 World Cup title after defeating France at the top of the party via a penalty shoot-out (4-2). This also made Messi succeed in adding trophies to his trophy cabinet.
Of course, this increases Messi’s chances of deciding to retire from the Argentina national team. However, Mac Allister hopes that the Paris Saint-Germain player will remain in the Argentina national team until the 2026 World Cup in order to defend his title.
“We don’t want him to leave the national team. He said it would be his last World Cup but we don’t want that,” said Alexis Mac Allister, quoted from Sportskeeda, Tuesday (3/1/2022).
“We want him to stay with us. He knows it. So let’s see what happens,” added the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder.
Mac Allister also said that Messi was very grateful for the hard work that had been shown by all the Argentina national team players. He also believes that in the future La Albiceleste will continue to show its best abilities.
“He messaged us yesterday wishing us a very good year. He was very grateful to us. After the game, we can’t talk too much because we want to celebrate,” continued Alexis Mac Allister.
“I think we still don’t realize what we have achieved, but in the next five or 10 years we will realize it,” concluded the 24-year-old player. Messi does have a very big role in the success of the Argentina national team at the 2022 World Cup. After scoring seven goals and three assists, the former Barcelona star was also voted the best player at the 2022 World Cup.
