Ahead of the England vs Italy national team match in the 2022-2023 UEFA Nations League, Gareth Southgate emphasised that his men must win at home. This was stated considering that England’s position in Group A3 was at the bottom with only one point collection.
As is known, Gli Azzurri – the nickname of the Italian national team – will challenge the Three Lions (the nickname of the English national team) in the continuation of Group A3 of the 2022-2023 UEFA Nations League. The match will be played at the Molineux Stadium, England, on Sunday, 12 June 2022.
Prior to the match, England coach Gareth Southgate had given a statement in his press conference. According to him, this match is very important for his foster children. Moreover, it is hoped that Jack Grealish and his colleagues can understand the strategy implemented by him.
“It’s important for our players to understand how we want them to play,” said Gareth Southgate.
For this reason, Gareth Southgate gave his team a recipe for both tactics and strategies so that their talents could be channelled. So, he said he was happy to be able to train them.
“We gave them tactics, but I want their individual skills to come out against Italy, we have to win against them (Italy, red),” said Gareth Southgate.
“It was great to have time with the players, they really accepted our ideas,” he added.
Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate himself is targeting a victory in the match against Italy this morning. Although, it’s likely he’ll field a few young players in order to get some good flying hours.
“It’s a balance between knowing that we have to win this game, but also trying to find out (judging) the players to get a good experience.” Just to note, the current position of Italy is better than England.
Roberto Mancini’s team is in first place in Group A3 with four points from the two matches played. Meanwhile, England, in fourth position with just one point.
