Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel, put up a body for Romelu Lukaku who was in the spotlight for showing a decline in performance. Tuchel also believes that Lukaku will soon get back up and make a big impact on Chelsea again.
This was conveyed by Tuchel ahead of the Southampton vs Chelsea match in Week 32 of the 2021-2022 Premier League. The match will be held at Saint Mary’s Stadium on Saturday (9/4/2022).
Ahead of the match, Tuchel confirmed that the Blues -Chelsea’s nickname – still believed in Lukaku. Therefore, the Belgian striker is still staying at Stamford Bridge.
“We wanted Romelu and we bought him because we believed in him, and still do,” explained Tuchel, quoted from the club’s official Chelsea website, Saturday (9/4/2022).
Tuchel said, although Chelsea had to lose in some games, it was not because of Lukaku. The defeat itself was obtained by Chelsea when they met Real Madrid 1-3 in the Champions League and from Brentford 1-4 in the English League.
“Those two defeats weren’t because of Romelu, he didn’t even start the last two games,” added Tuchel.
“We had a difficult result against Real Madrid, but we can’t put this down to one player,” said Tuchel.
Regardless, Tuchel believes Lukaku will soon return to his best form. He will continue to support Lukaku to restore his form. “We are still working to make him better.
We have reasons to spend this much money and he has reasons to come here and finish his job at Chelsea,” said Tuchel.
“Anything can change in the blink of an eye in football and there are already opportunities to get big improvements here. As a striker, stories can be written quickly and differently,” added Tuchel.
Meanwhile, Tuchel has stated that he hopes the club’s management can expedite any contract negotiations through the summer for his players. This was done to avoid distractions throughout the next season.
