Ahead of UFC 257, McGregor stumbles into legal trouble

Fighter Conor McGregor stumbles into legal trouble ahead of the duel at UFC 257 against Dustin Poirier at Fight Island, Abu Dhabi, Sunday (24/1).

Quoted from TMZ, two Irish women sued Conor McGregor in the aftermath of the alleged incident in 2018.

The lawsuit was filed in Dublin, Ireland, on Monday (18/1). According to the Independent.ie report, a woman filed a multi-million euro suit against McGregor for sustaining an injury.

Another charge against the 32-year-old fighter was filed by the woman’s mother, who is also suspected of personal injury.

However, in the news, the accusations against McGregor could not be published. According to the report, details of the case could not yet be disclosed for legal reasons.

However, Conor McGregor’s representatives told TMZ that The Notorious was innocent, and law enforcement officials didn’t pursue the case.

“After a thorough investigation by Garda: apart from interviews with plaintiffs, which included interviewing multiple sources, obtaining witness statements, checking CCTV, and cooperation from McGregor, these allegations were flatly rejected,” said McGregor’s representative Karen J. Kessler.

“The plaintiff is aware of facts that contradict the statements in this lawsuit. Mr. McGregor will dispute any claim and is confident justice will prevail,” Kessler added.

Meanwhile, quoted from Sports Illustrated, McGregor has stumbled several times in legal trouble. He was fined for hitting a man in the face at a pub in south Dublin in 2019, and the New York Times reports that he is being investigated for sexual assault that took place in Ireland in 2018.

The Notorious was also arrested in Brooklyn that year for throwing a doll on a UFC bus after media day. Then in September, McGregor was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on Corsica, an island in the Mediterranean Sea and French territory.

The fight against Dustin Poirier will be McGregor’s first after deciding to retire from the UFC in May 2020.

Conor McGregor last fought, last January, against Donald Cerrone. At that time, the former UFC lightweight world champion won in 40 seconds.

The fighter he is currently most eyeing is Khabib Nurmagomedov. At UFC 229, October 2018, he was defeated by The Eagle.

Unfortunately, Khabib Nurmagomedov did not seem interested in returning to face the defeated Conor McGregor.

If in the end he wanted to return to the octagon, then Georges St-Pierre would be the opponent the Russian fighter most wanted to face. Khabib Nurmagomedov has declared his retirement after defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 last October.
