AIU Bans Christian Coleman for Two Years for Missing Drugs Test

Christian Coleman has been banned by the Athletic Integrity Unit (AIU) for three missed doping tests within twelve months for two years until May 13, 2022.

And the 100m world champion is set to miss the Olympic Games in Tokyo. However, Coleman has the opportunity to appeal to the Supreme Sports Court in Lausanne.

“Unfortunately, we see this case as involving behaviour by the athlete as very careless at best and reckless at worsts. In those circumstances, we impose a two-year ban,” AIU said in a statement.

The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has stopped the process at the time and Coleman demanded an apology from the USADA.

But in the following investigation it turned out that the 24-year-old has given fake information. While the inspectors stated that they have waited in front Coleman’s house on December 9, 2019.

In the deadline specified by Coleman for a test from 7.35 to 8.15 p.m, Coleman wanted to have been home before the end of the test. However, evaluations of bills showed that he had still paid in a store at 8.22 p.m.

“It would have been simply impossible for him to purchase a chipotle at 7.35 (the store being 5-9 minutes from his residence), drive home, park the car, go into his residence, eat the chipotle, then watch the kick-off the football game which only started at 8.15, and thereafter go out again in his car, drive to the store, and pick up 16 items at the Walmart Supercenter so as to be able to pay for them by 8.22 p.m,” AIU said.

The AIU recognised in their decision on a missed test. It was the third violation within a year after those on January and April 26, 2019. Coleman always denied having doped.

Coleman won 100m gold at the World Championship in Doha in 2019. He also won 4x100m relay gold in Doha.
