Suzuki Ecstar rider Alex Rins celebrated his fifth podium of this season as the new leader of the championship at Aragon Grand Prix on Sunday. Rins’ teammate Joan Mir finished third to take a six-point lead at the top of the championship ahead of Fabio Quartararo.
The Spaniard hoped to win but is satisfied to have scored more points than his rivals Yamaha’s Quartararo in the championship.
“There are quite a few points between us. But I still have a chance to win the world championship. When and if I won’t have any more chances, I’ll be available to help Mir win.” Rins told GPOne.
“I’ve been with Suzuki for many years, and I’m fighting so that this bike can improve and win. This season has been full if ups and downs for me. I suffered a lot from the injury, and I’m still not one hundred percent okay.
“I’m looking to get a victory, so I’m not going to change my approach to the races and I will continue to win. And then, if I have enough lead points, I’ll start thinking about the championship.” Rins added.
MotoGP riders are back at Motorland Aragon this weekend for the Teruel GP. Rins believes the consistency of his Suzuki can make the difference in the race for the 2020 MotoGP world championship title.
“It would certainly be great to win again on such an important track for me. It’s raining here now, so we’ll see how the grip on the track will be tomorrow.” Rins said.
“The important thing will be to start in the best possible position, because the MotoGP is at a very high level this year and, when we race on the same track for two consecutive weekends, everyone improvers.” he added.
