Andy Murray opens up about the tragic incident that occurred in Nottingham and took place a few hours before a tennis match was held in the city.

Nottingham usually hosts the ATP and WTA tournaments the same week before Wimbledon. This season, both tournaments will be held this week (June 12 – 18). The WTA tournament that was held was a level 250 tournament, while the ATP tournament that was held was a Challenger event.

Even so, both tournaments are generally filled by a number of very reliable tennis players and one of them is a British tennis player who has won Wimbledon twice. He just won the title at the Challenger event which was held in Surbiton last week. It was an exciting week as the British tennis player wanted to continue to build momentum in hopes of becoming the seeded tennis player at Wimbledon. He needed a positive result in Nottingham and he got off to a good start with a smooth first round win.

The game would almost be missed due to the tragic incident that occurred in Nottingham, where several people lost their lives at the hands of a 31-year-old suspect who was arrested hours after the tragedy. Like everyone in Britain, the former world number 1 was shocked by the news.

“It must have been a huge shock when I woke up this morning. When I was about to have breakfast, several messages in our team group popped up. We were staying downtown and had dinner out the night before and walked around the area. You never think something like that could happen,” said Andy Murray.

Even though there was some uncertainty about the tennis match with everything that was going on, the organizers finally made the decision to go ahead with the match as scheduled. The situation in Nottingham was quickly brought under control and the suspect who was arrested contributed to the decision to continue with the game.

“Absolutely shocking and certainly very sad for all the victims and people involved. We spoke about it this morning, stating that we don’t know if the tournament will be postponed for a day because there are far more important things than a tennis tournament,” said Murray.
