Fati became the youngest player to score for Spain when he scored in a 4-0 over Ukraine in September 2020. Two months later, the 19-year-old forward injured his left knee meniscus and was sidelined for 10 months.
Earlier, Spain head coach Luis Enrique called up Barcelona star Fati for the national team’s decisive World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Sweden. But the muscle injury would take Fati away from the possibility.
“We are going to be very careful with players whoare coming back from injury. We are not going to take risks, we are going to take care of them, especially Ansu.” Enrique said.
“It’s normal that he’s not 100% fit, but we are going to assess how can help us in these games.” Enrique added.
Fati has missed the majority of the last 12 months with a serious knee injury, but he has four goals on his return to action in 2021/22, including a fantastic opener against Celta Vigo.
Defender Eric Garcia, meanwhile, also left the field will trouble in his right leg. Medical tests will be required to determine how serious the injury is. Spain head coach will wait until Monday to decide if he also needs to be replaced.
